Se devo decidere qual è il bootleg che ho sentito più volte nella mia vita, la scelta è semplice.

No, non è di springsteen, ne ho troppi suoi e quindi, per quanto sia sicuramente il cantante di cui ascolto più concerti, non ce n'è uno in particolare che spicchi.

Forse il concerto di capodanno del 1980, o san siro 1985, o san siro 2003, o il benefit per i veterani del vietnam, o il winterland.

No, il bootleg che ho ascoltato di più è il concerto del 31 dicembre 1989 degli u2 a dublino.

Inizialmente nella versione "italiana", cioè registrato dalla radio, con cotto e zambellini che parlano (troppo), poi in quella meravigliosa su cd.

Tante, tantissime le volte che mettevo su la cassetta\cd\lettore mp3 e facevo partire il valzer delle candele, con bono che dice there's no limit to the limit of our imagination, dream the kind of world you wanna live in, dream out loud!

e poi where the streets have no name, i will follow, i still haven't found.

e poi quella sequenza interminabile che parte con gloria ed arriva a bad, con quella all along the watchtower sparata a razzo, la stessa bad così definitiva, to let it go and so to fade away, cantata dal pubblico, we're wide awake!

Conosco ogni singolo secondo di quel concerto, comprese le parole dei due giornalisti.

Me lo aveva fatto avere ovviamente capitan buffa, mio personale mentore uduico, tramite amici di università, dopo il concerto del 92 e avevo letteralmente consumato quella cassetta.

Anche perchè all'epoca, ma anche adesso, non riuscivo a fermarmi, dovevo per forza ascoltarlo tutto, dovevo sentire bono che ringrazia e saluta tutti gli abitanti delle nazioni dove c'è un registatore acceso (italia compresa, ovviamente), aspettare l'arrivo della bb king orchestra, dovevo farmi spaccare in due da love rescue me dedicata a chi lavora e a chi dipende da amnesty international, dovevo sentire i brividi durante 40, quando bono ringrazia edge, adam e larry per averlo fatto entrare nella loro band, how long we sing this song?

Il concerto del 31 era l'ultimo di 4 tenuti dalla band al point depot di dublino durante il "lovetown tour" del 1989.
